Most businesses are keen to move towards growth, but some veterinary clinics see the size of their practice, client numbers in their vicinity, as limitations to their growth. Growth is most certainly possible despite these limitations. Here are seven things that practices are doing right, in order to scale.Â
Focus on your current client base
Instead of focusing on acquiring new clients, offer more to your current client base. Stock pet food, toys, and accessories. Be sure to offer additional services like grooming, complementary therapies, or a visiting specialist. If your current clients are happy, word of mouth goes a long way, and you have a client for life.
Have a brand and stick to it
If your brand is a quality brand, you can proudly offer high-end services and charge more. If your brands focus is to be budget friendly, you can offer promotions and incentives to your clients.
Hire quality staff
Employing staff that suit your brand and mission statement is invaluable. You could consider hiring individuals that provide a unique selling proposition over competitors – an ophthalmologist, would be a good example.
Minimize risk and plan for errors
Mitigating risk can be a costly toll to pay for small businesses. Something like a data breach could be catastrophic – you can lose client confidence, and the costs can be astronomical. Make sure you are appropriately insured against mistakes of this nature to cover not just your business, but your clients.
Reinvest and think ahead
Don’t pocket all the profits if growth is one of your priorities. Planning for your future by always thinking ahead and being prepared for the next steps. Understanding what your business will need, and what to invest in is crucial. For example, investing in new equipment so you can stay relevant.
Use social media
Have an account on all major platforms and keep your accounts up-to-date. It helps provide your current and potential clients a space to interact with your clinic, so they feel involved, valued, and potential customers can find your clinic through your digital presence.
Be socially responsible
Be green, and be responsible with your pet care advice and advertising. Additionally, donate to a relevant charity – a local animal shelter or similar organization. Use your social media to advertise your support, as its excellent PR and demonstrates your values.
